This major aims to deepen the study of modern and contemporary Arabic literature, based on a comprehensive and in-depth perspective that covers all Arab countries, breaking with regional centrality and paying attention to the transformations in modern and contemporary Arabic literature. The field of study in this major includes the arts of poetry and prose, focusing on their study in the Levant and the Gulf. It recognizes the importance of theater and popular literature, and focuses on the Arabic novel as a dominant genre in the contemporary Arab creative scene. It also addresses the problematic issues of Arab writers who write in other languages. Through the "Arabic Literature in Other Languages" module, it addresses Arab children's literature, Arabic travel literature, diaspora literature, literary genres, intellectual trends, and cultural studies. To further the principle of openness to other disciplines, students in this major take exploratory modules that deepen their understanding and enhance their learning through modules on media and communication theories, educational psychology, professional ethics, linguistic analysis techniques, and an introduction to the humanities. This major guarantees a diverse education and qualifies students to pursue research in the field of Arabic literature.

Advanced Topics

·        Students wishing to pursue a degree in modern and contemporary Arabic literature must meet the following requirements:

• First, a BA in Arabic Literature. •

Be familiar with the development of ancient Arabic literature.

• Be familiar with issues of Western literature, given their significant influence on modern and contemporary Arabic literature.

• Be familiar with the foundations of Western criticism, both ancient and modern.

• Be familiar with the basics of ancient and contemporary Arabic criticism.

• Be familiar with the cultural backgrounds and philosophical references influencing the development of modern and contemporary Arabic literature.

• Be familiar with Eastern and Western mythological symbols, given their importance in understanding the trends of modern and contemporary Arabic literature.

Admissions Information

.Completion of all undergraduate credits and obtaining a bachelor's degree in Arabic Language and Literature.

The student's failure to comply with the disciplinary board.

The student submits an application to join the program according to the training offer:

First, electronic registration and completion of the application form.

Submission of the necessary documents: a copy of the bachelor's degree certificate, a copy of the baccalaureate certificate, a written application, and a birth certificate. The applicants' files are then reviewed by the program offer officials, and the results are determined.
