Program Overview

The program covers the essential foundations of hydrogeology, both qualitative and quantitative. It also includes key concepts in fluid mechanics, drilling, reservoirs, and elements of geophysics applied to hydrogeology. Particular attention is given to water resources, with data on their economic potential.

To provide a more comprehensive understanding of the subsurface, basic concepts related to the movement of other fluids, such as oil and gas, have also been included.

This training enables students to develop the necessary skills to:

• Explore groundwater resources;

• Manage water resources, whether underground or surface;

• Understand and mitigate the impact of human activities on water quality.

Teaching Language : French, English

Curriculum Highlights

Core Courses

Fundamental Hydrogeology, Groundwater Hydrodynamics, Hydrochemistry, Hydroclimatology, General Hydrology, Drilling and Water Capture Techniques, Hydrogeological Modeling.

Advanced Topics

The hydrogeology graduate will be able to manage a project from start to finish. They will be capable of:

  • Identifying areas likely to serve as groundwater reservoirs,
  • Planning and monitoring drilling operations, developing and rehabilitating boreholes, determining sustainable extraction rates, and installing submersible pumps,
  • Implementing protection perimeters (aquifer vulnerability assessment),
  • Preserving water resources through appropriate treatment methods,
  • Promoting the reuse of treated wastewater,
  • Transporting water from its source to the consumer through pipeline systems,
  • Anticipating situations that may harm the environment or human health by using hydrological and hydrogeological modeling tools,
  • Contributing actively to environmental management.

Admissions Information

Access to this master's program is primarily reserved for holders of an academic bachelor's degree in hydrogeology or applied geology. However, candidates with degrees related to water sciences or fundamental geology may also apply, subject to a scientific review of their application.
