Program Overview

Program Overview

The Master’s program in Hadith and Its Sciences stems from the Bachelor's track in The Qur'an and Sunnah, and represents a gateway to advanced academic research in all dimensions of hadith studies. It gives special attention to both transmission (riwāyah)—such as the sciences of al-jarḥ wa al-taʿdīl (evaluation of narrators), hidden defects (ʿilal), and biographical evaluation of narrators—as well as understanding (dirāyah)—including hadith jurisprudence, problematic hadiths, objectives of the Sunnah (maqāṣid al-sunnah), and various classical and contemporary commentaries. It also incorporates scholarly contributions from both classical and modern times.

The program aims to equip students with theoretical and applied knowledge through a two-year curriculum structured as follows:

  • Semesters 1 to 3: Coursework
  • Semester 4: Dedicated to the preparation of a graduation thesis, which serves as the culmination of the training process and represents its comprehensive practical dimension.

Program Objectives:

  • To prepare a distinguished group of researchers specialized in Hadith and its sciences, preserving, understanding, and applying it in religious, social, and worldly contexts.
  • To meet the needs of religious institutions and educational bodies through comprehensive academic training and practical field internships.
  • To facilitate joint supervision between the teaching team and specialized research laboratories, with support from relevant administrative bodies.

Specific Training Goals:

  • Deepen students' knowledge of hadith sciences beyond the undergraduate level, with a focus on transmission chains (isnād), hidden defects, and the objectives and applications of the Sunnah.
  • Train highly qualified professionals capable of pedagogical supervision at various levels of education, and who can meet the needs of religious institutions locally, regionally, and nationally.
  • Prepare outstanding students for continuation into doctoral-level research.
