Program Overview

The dental medicine training leading to the degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine is organized as follows:

  • A preclinical cycle composed of the first three years, during which there are subjects in basic sciences, medical subjects, and dental subjects (odontological sciences). During this preclinical cycle, two English modules are taught: one in the first year, which is annual, and the other in the second year, which is semester-based.
  • A clinical cycle consisting of the fourth and fifth years, during which there are odontological subjects combined with clinical and medical internships.
  • A sixth year, referred to as the "internship," which consists of two six-month clinical internships as well as the defense of a final thesis.


Teaching Language : The Dental Medicine curriculum includes two English modules (in the first and second years) to strengthen students' proficiency in English. However, all subjects taught in the dental medicine program are delivered in French.

Core Courses

All the subjects included in the training cycle of a future dental surgeon are essential, whether they are fundamental subjects primarily scheduled in the first year (Anatomy, Histo-embryology, Physics, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Genetics, Biostatistics, etc.), medical subjects (Pathological Anatomy, Pharmacology, Anesthesiology, Medical Imaging, etc.), or dental subjects (Periodontology, Conservative and Endodontic Dentistry, Dentofacial Orthopedics, Prosthodontics, Oral Pathology and Surgery, Implantology).


Advanced Topics

These are specialized or in-depth modules within the program.

In dental medicine, five specialties are available for general dental practitioners: Periodontology, Conservative and Endodontic Dentistry, Dentofacial Orthopedics, Prosthodontics, and Oral Pathology and Surgery. However, training in these specialties is conducted in French.


Admissions Information

 

  • Admission to dental studies is open to holders of a baccalaureate or an equivalent diploma.
  • During the university course in dental medicine, admission is based on the annual compensatory general average. However, students must not have an eliminatory grade lower than 05/20.
