Presentation of the Doctoral Program
Applied Biochemistry is one of the two specializations within the doctoral program in Biological Sciences offered by the Faculty of Sciences (Department of Natural and Life Sciences – SNV) at the University of Algiers 1 Benyoucef Benkhedda.
The doctoral training in Biological Sciences aims to address Algeria’s specific needs in terms of food security and public health, while contributing to sustainable development and the improvement of the population's quality of life. Indeed, biological sciences have a profound and multidimensional impact on food safety and public health. They provide essential tools and knowledge to sustainably enhance food production, ensure food safety, and develop effective health interventions. These advances contribute to a better quality of life and the protection of public health on a global scale.
Through the recent revision of the national research projects (PNR), the General Directorate for Scientific Research and Technological Development (DGRSDT) has reoriented scientific research towards applied aspects in the fields of health and food security, in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted by the United Nations (Paris, 2015), and with the aim of improving citizen health.
It is within this framework that this doctoral program has been established in the Biological Sciences stream, with its specializations in Applied Biochemistry and Applied Microbiology. The main objectives of this doctoral training are to provide scientific, technical, and operational skills to train high-level professionals capable of conducting research in biological sciences, in response to the challenges faced by our biomedical and economic partners.
Moreover, this doctoral program represents a valuable opportunity for the most qualified Master’s students to pursue their studies at the postgraduate level.
