Browse Programs Admission InformationThe Master's program in General and Comparative Literature offers students training in general, French, and Francophone literature, as well as in comparative literature. In addition to developing language skills that enable students to express themselves clearly in French, both orally and in writing, this program aims to provide them with the theoretical and methodological knowledge and tools necessary for analyzing literary texts. This is done through courses in literary theory and comparative literature, which are designed to introduce students to the principles and practice of comparative analysis.
The General and Comparative Literature program spans four semesters. The first and second semesters offer students courses in literary criticism, literary movements and genres, as well as Francophone literature. These aim to provide students with the foundational knowledge necessary for the analysis and interpretation of any literary text. These core courses are reinforced by classes in methodology, literary text didactics, discourse analysis, and semiology, which encourage an interdisciplinary approach to literary texts.During the third semester, students are introduced to other Francophone literatures from around the world and to intercultural relations through two subjects: World Literature and Cultural Mediation. The final semester is dedicated to the preparation of a Master's thesis.
