Core Courses

Program Objectives

The objective of the program is to equip students with analytical methods and techniques related to fundamental geological sciences (geosciences), in order to prepare them for advanced specialized training.

✅ Semester 1

  • Subject: Advanced Regional Hydrogeology
  • Unit: UEF1
  • Learning Objectives: Present various hydrogeological settings students may encounter in their careers or research, through real-life examples illustrating physical processes, approaches, environmental and socio-economic impacts.

  • Subject: General Ore Deposits (Gîtologie Générale)
  • Unit: UEF1
  • Learning Objectives: Understand the processes responsible for mineral concentrations, and know how to identify and explore them.

✅ Semester 2

  • Subject: Operational Hydrogeology / Hydrology
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Acquire the fundamental principles of field measurement techniques, GIS use, and conducting hydrological and hydrogeological investigations.

  • Subject: Quantitative Hydrology / Hydrogeology
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Present the physical principles of water flow and material transport in saturated/unsaturated, porous/fissured media in order to quantify their effects.

  • Subject: Statistical Hydrology I
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Study the distribution of extreme flows (floods, droughts), interpret data, model hydrological risks, and manage water reserves.

  • Subject: Ecohydrology
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Study the interaction between aquatic ecosystems and hydrology as a tool for fresh water management.

  • Subject: Digital Hydrology
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Introduction to numerical modeling in hydrology using 1D, 2D, and 3D applications in hydrology and hydrogeology.

  • Subject: Hydrological Risk
  • Unit: UEF
  • Learning Objectives: Use digital models to assess and prevent hydrological risks using digital elevation models and simulations.

✅ Semester 3

  • Subject: Research Methodology
  • Unit: UED1
  • Learning Objectives: Initiate students into scientific research methods, organizing ideas, and writing a research thesis.

  • Subject: Scientific English
  • Unit: UET1
  • Learning Objectives: Learn how to communicate in English in a scientific context (both written and oral).

  • Subject: Entrepreneurship
  • Unit: UET1
  • Learning Objectives: Introduce students to project development and management in the geoscience and environmental sectors.

✅ Semester 4

  • Subject: Internship in a Company
  • Unit: UEM
  • Learning Objectives: Apply acquired skills in the field (wells, rivers, springs), and perform data analysis and laboratory work.

  • Subject: Scientific Seminars
  • Unit: UEM
  • Learning Objectives: Expand scientific knowledge on topics related to environment, geology, and the mineral industry through expert-led seminars.

  • Subject: Final Year Thesis
  • Unit: UEM
  • Learning Objectives: Prepare a structured scientific thesis, analyze results from field or lab work, and present the findings orally to a jury.
