A STATEMENT ABOUT "SALHI AHMED" UNIVERSITY CENTRE IN NAAMA
The "Salhi Ahmed" University Center in Naama is an ambitious higher education institution, it gained an important place through its location and cultural diversity, on account of its situation in a state that is considered a portal to the Algerian desert, a state that revolutionary past, profound Bedouin traditions, and a rich tapestry of Arab and Amazigh heritage.
Date of Establishment
Since its inception, thirteen years ago (executive decree 205-10 dated September 9, 2010), this young scientific establishment is walking with sure steps towards the goals devised for it by the higher authorities of the country, thus marking its name in the middle of the Algerian academicals institutions, all of this with an intense drive to create a beacon of cultural and technological education for an important region in our nation: the Algerian southwest.
The initial structure of the university center was composed of two institutes. It now includes six institutes spread across two main campuses: one for natural sciences and technology and the other dedicated to humanities and literature. The current structure of the center includes:
- A central administration and three subsidiary administrations
- A center for intensive language teaching
- A library for science, technology, and natural sciences
- A library for humanities, law, and literature
- 300 teachers in various specialties
- Six institutes: Institute of Science, Institute of Technology, Institute of Economics and Management, Institute of Law, Institute of Literature and Languages, Institute of Humanities and Social Sciences
- 23 departments
- Over 7,000 Algerian and international students
- 9 fields of study; 25 courses, 32 bachelor’s specialties, 39 master’s specialties
- Doctoral LMD programs in various specialties
- 21 practical work laboratories
- Three internet spaces
- Two distance learning classrooms with a capacity of 40 seats
- Two reading rooms with a capacity of 400 seats
Acknowledgments
This development in such a short time could not have been possible without the support of the ministry of higher education, and the combined efforts of all those involved in the center's team. The clarity of the prospects and the work strategies of the administration and academic staff is also essential to the process. These endeavors are made to improve the scientific production, the pedagogical and research tools of both teacher and student, and to create a presence for the University Center of NAAMA in the national and international level through partnerships and collaborations of cultural and scientific nature. Warm and sincere gratitude is here expressed to everyone involved, and best hopes for the future.
