The doctoral project in "Sustainable Architecture and Urban Design" aims to achieve several key objectives, both academic and professional. It seeks to train experts capable of designing, analyzing, and implementing sustainable architectural and urban solutions, while making significant contributions to scientific research, academic life, and the improvement of professional practices in the fields of architecture and urban planning. These objectives include:
- Developing theoretical and practical knowledge in the fields of sustainable architecture and urban planning. The program offers comprehensive training that combines theory and practice. Doctoral candidates will explore current concepts in sustainable design and urban development and apply them in real-world contexts.
- Producing original research and designing innovative solutions to contemporary challenges in urban sustainability. Thesis outcomes should significantly contribute to Algeria’s development in relevant areas, such as energy efficiency, quality of life, climate resilience, and urban management. Doctoral students will work on projects aimed at improving residents’ quality of life by creating healthier, safer, and more inclusive urban environments. They will develop strategies to provide a viable urban framework and enhance city management and resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
- Integrating interdisciplinarity through the diversity of topics addressed and the development of varied approaches (resilience, well-being, healthy urbanism, ethical planning, urban sociology, digital tools, artificial intelligence, etc.). The challenges of sustainable architecture and urban projects require collaboration across multiple disciplines: architecture, engineering, urban planning, sociology, economics, and more. Doctoral candidates will be trained to work in multidisciplinary teams, communicate effectively with specialists from various fields, and integrate diverse perspectives to develop holistic solutions.
- Developing methodological and pedagogical skills to train future generations and enhance multidisciplinary capabilities. Doctoral students will be trained to present their work at national and international conferences, publish in high-level scientific journals, and engage in dialogue with both academics and professional stakeholders.
- Strengthening collaborations with the socio-economic sector to develop research with societal impact. Such collaboration not only enriches research work but also ensures that these studies have a tangible and positive impact on society. This collaborative approach promotes innovation, accelerates the adoption of sustainable solutions, and contributes to a more viable and resilient urban environment.
