About Us

BATNA1 University is a public institution of higher education under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS). 


It was one of the first universities created in Algeria. It was established in September 1977 by Ordinance 77-91 of June 20, 1977, using the infrastructure of the BATNA INES. Since then, the BATNA1 university has undergone gradual development, with the opening of new specialties and courses of study, supported by adequate staffing and new infrastructures offering teaching places in line with the needs of the university map, geographical districts and the strategy laid down by the supervisory authorities.


Initially providing diversified, multi-disciplinary training in the profiles of D.E.S, Licence, Ingénieurs, Techniciens supérieurs and diplôme des études universitaires appliquées (DEUA), the BATNA1 university was a pioneer in the adoption of the LMD system.


Today, the BATNA1 University has 28898 students in the three cycles of the LMD (Licence - Master et Doctorat) and the classic system (ingénieur d'état, architecte et docteur en sciences vétérinaires), spread over eight (08) fields of study:


 1.   Matter Sciences (SM).

2.   Natural and Life Sciences (SNV).

3.   Economics, Management and Business Sciences (SEGC). 

4.   Law and Political Science (DSP) 

5.   Human Sciences

6.   Arabic Language and Literature (LLA) 

7.   Amazigh Language and Culture (LCA) 

8.   Architecture, Urban Planning and City Professions (AUMV) 

In addition to the Veterinary Sciences course, which comes under the Health Sciences field. 


The 28898 students are distributed as follows:

  Institute of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences: 3081

  Faculty of Economics, Management and Commercial Sciences: 5,475

  Faculty of Law and Political Science: 5553

Registration procedures at BATNA1 University


In accordance with the conditions laid down by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MESRS), access to higher education for new baccalaureate holders at BATNA1 University is identical to that of other Algerian universities. It depends on the results obtained in the baccalaureate and the overall average. The courses offered to registered students are as follows: 


a.  Licence (bac + 3),

b.  Master (Licence +2) 

c.  Master à cursus intégré de licence (bac + 5), 

d.  State engineer (bac + 5), 

e.  Veterinary science (bac + 6). 

f.  Diploma in architecture (bac + 5),

Student Life

Batna 1 University offers its students all the human and material resources (including buildings) they need to enjoy a fulfilling student life, through scientific, cultural and sporting activities and events generally organized by the Scientific, Cultural and Sporting Activities Sub-Directorate.

Students also organize themselves into scientific clubs at institute and faculty level, and are supervised by teachers, especially for scientific events and even seminars. 

The Sub-Directorate for Cultural, Sports and Scientific Activities is one of the places where students can express their scientific, cultural and sporting talents. The Sub-Directorate's main objective is to discover the talents of university youth and employ them in the activities carried out by the Sub-Directorate, with a view to shaping a cultured and athletic university generation, as well as combining creativity and science.

The Sub-Directorate for Scientific, Cultural and Sports Activities is responsible for :

* Promoting and developing the university's scientific and cultural activities for the benefit of students.

* Organize recreational activities.

* Support sports activities as part of the university sports program.
