Program Overview

Sociology of crime and deviance is one of the branches of sociology and has become an established specialty in itself with its pioneers, theories, and areas of research. It includes several axes in both sociology and legal sciences. The lesson deals with topics related to deviance and crime in its various forms and types. Through the standards that the student studies in this specialization, which lasts for two years (Master 1, Master 2), the sociological vision of crime and the manifestations of deviance that make society lose its balance becomes clear to him. In addition, during the formation period, he learns about the sociological dimension of the phenomenon of deviance and the negative effects that result from it on the individual and societal levels, in addition to learning about the mechanisms and mechanics that must be relied upon to confront this phenomenon or at least reduce its impact.

For Master 1, there are sociological theories of deviance and crime, criminology, penology, and victimology, all of which are annual standards. As for the basic standards for Master 2, we find correctional and penal institutions, delinquency and juvenile care, criminal anthropology, and new crimes.

Admissions Information

The student who applies to complete his university academic career in the specialty of sociology, crime and deviance, will be accepted after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in sociology. Of course, acceptance is according to merit and based on the principle of excellence. Acceptance begins with the outstanding students who apply for this specialty, then the lowest and lowest until the number of students in the cohort is complete, according to what is approved in the meetings with those in charge of college affairs. There are some nearby specializations, after the student obtains a bachelor’s degree in it, he can join the master’s degree in sociology of crime and deviance, and these specializations are criminal sociology, sociology of education, and criminology. Also, the student who is able to succeed in the first year can continue his training in the master’s 2 in the same specialization and in another university that provides training in it.
