Program Overview

The educational objective of the Animal Production and Nutrition specialization is to train graduates to use their scientific knowledge of animals to meet the challenges of tomorrow's livestock industry. This specialization aims to meet the growing need for an integrated approach to animal production systems. It is unique in that it closely combines courses in nutrition, integrative physiology and animal health, with particular emphasis on the relationship between animal feed and the nutritional and health qualities of animal products. Students are also required to acquire skills in entrepreneurship and agro-economic management of livestock farms.

Advanced Topics

After basic courses on physiology, nutrition and management, more in-depth courses are added to the Master's programme. Formulation of feeds from alternative local resources using formulation software to maximize local resources. Introduction of new livestock management techniques using IT tools. Prospective analysis of the management of the technical and economic performance of livestock farms through the use of modelling. In terms of animal health, our research courses focus on local alternatives, with studies targeting medicinal plants and ancestral animal care practices.

Admissions Information

Admission to the Master's Degree in Animal Production and Nutrition is open to students who hold a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Production. All the courses of this bachelor's degree are considered prerequisites for the courses of the proposed master's degree. In addition, students in the traditional system who have completed a scientific and technical course in agronomy in the field of animal production, as in the case of the Agricultural Engineer with Animal Production option, may be admitted to the courses of this Master's degree.
