Program Overview

The Urban Engineering specialization aims to prepare professionals with the multidisciplinary skills necessary for:

The management and engineering of urban transportation systems, by designing, managing, and controlling all types of transportation, mobility, and travel in urban environments. (The interrelationship between the urban environment, mobility, and daily life; The management of the different facets of the urban transportation system; The impact of urban transportation on city development;

The establishment of transport and traffic plans (PTC) for each city, etc.) Urban network management, capable of addressing the technical issues of urban network management (Managing and intervening on urban network infrastructure and services, planning, estimating, and monitoring the costs of operating, maintenance, and rehabilitation operations, researching and developing new products or processes, etc.)

Course Objectives

The Urban Engineering program aims to prepare highly qualified professionals capable of designing, planning, and managing urban infrastructure and systems using a technical and integrated approach. The main objective is to train engineers and experts capable of addressing the complex challenges of contemporary cities by combining technical expertise, innovation, and sustainability.

Upon completion of this program, students will be able to:

• Design and optimize urban infrastructure (transportation networks, sanitation systems, energy, etc.) using advanced technical tools.

• Integrate smart technologies (IoT, BIM, urban modeling) into city management.

• Analyze and resolve technical issues related to accelerated urbanization and climate change.

• Work in multidisciplinary teams (architects, urban planners, ecologists) to develop sustainable urban projects.

Targeted Skills:

1. Technical Skills:

o Proficiency in urban design software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, GIS, Revit).

o Infrastructure project management (planning, costs, deadlines).

o Knowledge of technical standards and regulations. 2. Cross-Curricular Skills:

o Ability to analyze and synthesize urban data.

o Technical communication (report writing, project presentations).

o Leadership and management of technical teams.

3. Forward-Looking Skills:

o Anticipation of future urban needs (resilience, sustainable mobility).

o Innovation in urban engineering solutions.

This program is aimed at future engineers and technicians who wish to play key roles in building the cities of tomorrow, combining scientific rigor and practical creativity.

Learners will also be trained to conduct research in a company or university as part of their doctoral program.

• Ensure the general operation of technical services and conduct applied studies and research;

• Assist and advise hierarchical authorities in the design of structures or projects related to housing, urban planning, infrastructure, and public facilities.

Teaching Language : French and English

• Smart traffic management (adaptive signaling systems, data analysis)

• Infrastructure planning for sustainable mobility (electric vehicle charging stations)

• Modeling of transport flows using specialized software (PTV Vissim, AIMSUN)

2. Urban Network Management

• Design and operation of infrastructure networks:

o Water and sanitation networks

o Electrical power distribution and smart lighting

o Telecommunications and data networks

• Fault detection technologies (SCADA systems, smart monitoring)

• Management of underground conflicts between different networks

3. Urban Environmental Engineering

• Air quality monitoring systems and environmental indicators

• Smart waste management (automated collection systems, energy recovery)

• Design Green infrastructure (green roofs, rain gardens)

• Energy efficiency solutions for buildings and public facilities

4. Urban Risk Management

• Disaster early warning systems (floods, earthquakes)

• Risk-resilient infrastructure design

• Emergency and evacuation plans for large cities

• Risk modeling with GIS and artificial intelligence
